Fun in Cape Town

Amy and I are having a wonderful time here in Cape Town. We arrived on Monday night after a very long day of traveling. We flew for about 21 hours with stops in Dakar, Senegal and Johannesburg before finally arriving in Cape Town. Needless to say we have been quite slow in recovering from the jetlag. Fortunately, the flights were quite smooth and we were even lucky enough to be bumped up to business class for the little trip from Joburg.

Our first few days here have been very nice and relaxing. We have been staying with my Aunt, Uncle and cousins and it has been great having a chance to catch up. We have also been downtown to walk around many of the interesting/hippie shops on Long Street and over to the Waterfront where there are hundreds of wonderful shops, bars and restaurants right on the ocean port. We drove around much of Cape Town with my Granny (my Dad’s mother) and even managed to take a turn driving on the opposite side of the road without incident.

Yesterday, we spent the afternoon walking on the beach where we enjoyed one of Cape Town’s magnificent sunsets. Then my grandparents (paternal) made a proper South African braai for dinner. While barbeques are always fun, they just can’t compare to a braai, which consists of lamb chops and South African sausage (flavored with lots of coriander) – it was really outstanding!

Today, we went to visit my mom’s mother (we call her Gagga) on the other side of Cape Town for lunch. It is our second time having lunch there this week and both times Gagga spoiled us with three course meals. Now we are just relaxing for the afternoon and trying to digest our lunch before we go out to the Spurs for hamburgers tonight. Beyond that I have know idea what tomorrow will have in store, but if the weather is nice we are hoping to take the cable car up to the top of Table Mountain for the spectacular views one of these days.

I will update again soon and hopefully include some pictures.
